  • 10. Nearly 50 billion things will be connected to the Internet over the next five years.
  • 11. And all of those connections are going to generate a lot of money for companies.
  • 12. According to IDC, the Internet of Things market will be worth $7.1 trillion by 2020.
  • 13. Yes, trillion.
  • 14. The potential market size is so big because the IoT will increase efficiencies across many sectors.
  • 15. For example, General Electric says that using the IoT to increase oil and gas exploration by just 1% would result in $90 billion in savings.
  • 16. But it’s not just companies that are warming to the IoT.
  • 17. Consumers are adopting the Internet of Things — even if they don’t know what it is.
  • 18. Wearable technology, connected homes and Internet-connected vehicles are all part of the Internet of Things.
  • 19. Right now, just 7% of consumers own a wearable tech device.
  • 20. But by the end of next year, that number will likely jump to 28%.
  • 21. And by 2019, companies are projected to ship 1.9 billion connected home devices per year.
  • 22. So what’s the point of all these statistics?
  • 23. The Internet of Things is still in its infancy.
  • 24. Even if a handful of these predictions prove true…
  • 25. Then the IoT will be a revolutionary change to how companies do business and how consumers use technology.
  • 26. And there’s still time for investors to get in on the IoT ground floor.
