- 5. Photography goes beyond a simple click it will become a vehicle by which establish new and unexpected relationships with people and places "Travel and photography were the two things that have characterised my life.I studied photography, practice done and taught it. At the same time I was boosting my creativity and knowledges of the world through my travels. Either behind the house or in the Bolivian jungle My journey has always begun driven by the desire to discover, learn and photograph. A mutual love that compensate and fulfil each other. Photography that prompted me to travel and travel that allowed me to photograph. Two passions that have led me to live a active life . Full of adventures, experiences and opportunities. My training led me to graduate and specialise in visual communications, photography and photo journalism. My restlessness dragged me to discover places and indescribable realities shown only thanks to my photographs. www.robertozampinophoto.comhttps://www.facebook.com/roberto.zampino.photographer

- 7. Travel Photography: • Preparation • Travel • Organisation
- 8. P R E PA R AT I O N
- 9. • travel photography starts at home. I decide the destination and start studying the territory i will be going. I try to understand all the stories have been already done there • – I study other reportages and understand how i could get a different point of view. which stories need to be told or new ways to narrate the territory. • – I check the cult places to make sure i won’t shoot cliche • – I buy photography books about that place • – I look up for local photographers and ask questions • - I search for a good Fixer, somebody who knows the place , language and could help me to sort things out. • I draft generic lines , i don’t plan
- 10. • website i check to see how the place has been observed , from more professional to amateur • http://500px.com/ • http://1x.com/ • www.flickr.com • http://www.worldpressphoto.org/ • lensculture.com
- 11. B A C K PA C K T I M E • Make a check list • choose your lenses and bodies accordingly to what you are going to do and your style in my case : canon 5d mark III - fujifilm x t1 35mm 17-40 mm 50 mm 85mm • set of batteries and chargers • Cards • rain covers - plastic bas - dry bags and • cleaning kit - blower, brush and rice paper • a smaller backpack , foldable and light, when you don't need your gears
- 12. • Hard disk to back my photos on the spot • Maps • Compas - i want to know how the sun moves • notepad and pen

- 14. • Finally on the road. Check-in done, the plane took off, helmet on your head, seat belts fastened .. camera ready! lets shooot!Every time I start a new report or explore a new place I am struck by the same feeling.it Comes like a train and it makes my heartbeats go faster. I feel lost, I think I will never manage to give justice to the place, I think there are too many things to tell. • • Every corner is a discovery , every face surprises and excites me. This is the worst time form me to shoot. The photography frenzy is counterproductive. During The first few hours i want just walk, smell, observe and talk to people. My camera around my neck gives me a sense of security and belonging, but I try not to get overwhelmed by the urge to hide myself behind the viewfinder. Be patient, I keep repeating ...When this irrational impulse thins out by giving a little bit of space to my reason I begin to think about my shots, keep calm, be calm, and click :) •
- 15. • -be spontaneous • -greet and smile as much as possible • -talk with the locals • -get dragged to events, unexpected private , festival and whatever it comes • -Shyness has not to become an obstacle • -meet new people
- 16. • THE HUMAN COMPONENT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DESCRIBING PHOTOGRAPH AND A PHOTO WHICH IS ABLE TO TELL STORIES . • TRY TO MAKE INCLUDE PEOPLE IN YOUR SHOTS.
- 17. • - Shoot RAW (apart from the color depth and dynamic range, you have a broader possibilities in post production) • -Always have your camera ready, but do not live the moments just behind your lens. • -change iso according to the light conditions. it has to become a spontaneous action • -change settings before you take that coffee at the bar! the camera has to be always ready! (yap! i say it again!) • -leave the lens cap in your bag and if you are concerned about scratches use a filter to protect it ( ND0 ) • - use your favourite shooting mode any but you must have full control of your image, light, and then having the full capacity to decision on your photography. • -I prefer aperture priority A or P program • - Always use M for the evenings and nights • -be always ready but never in rushed • -prevent and plan action. observe the world around us, try to understand and prevent the unfolding stories to be able to seize the moment • -think about the decisive moment - (Bresson) when camera, heart and head are aligned, creating a great image • -think of the several layers that constitute our images. What is happening in the foreground? in the middle? in the background? there may be other elements that would give depth to our image? are There empty spaces that a possible human figure could fill?
- 18. • -create your comPosition and wait for all the elements to collide into your image • -gives humanity to your snaps - inserting human figures, silhouette, portraits, body parts • -the golden light is at dawn and mainly after the sunset, but having a restricted amount of time you would better to be ready to take advantage of the midday direct light and misty town- be creative , you will sort it out • -observed the shadows • -during the worst time try to photograph the interior: pubs, clubs, churches. • -with grey skies and gloomy atmospheres try to use a nice 50mm to blur as much as possible and give life to the details • -chase the light that filters from the windows
- 19. – J O H N N Y A P P L E S E E D • -dare ... DARE! the only really wrong shot is the one you have not taken • -observed ... LOOK! take your time, pay attention to every detail
- 20. • prevent and plan action. observe the world around us, try to understand and prevent the unfolding stories to be able to seize the moment
- 21. • -overexpose to give effect to the fatuous and dreamy environments • -do not follow the masses, avoid the touristy places • -you must be the first to be surprised! whether in your backyard or in Vietnam remember to be as much surprised as you can. • -Walking .. walking ... walking, walking • -visit markets, buy merchandise and sample local food and drinks • -make yourself a little ridiculous, and be self ironic • -stop for a coffee or a beer., forget your photographs and relax • -Look out to gather ideas and feel the culture of the place.
- 22. L U C K I N P H O T O G R A P H Y I S O N LY P R A C T I C E A N D C A PA C I T Y T O P R E V E N T A C T I O N S • -look for details • -break the rules • -compose paying attention to every inch of our composition - ALL COUNTS, everything must have a meaning in our shots • -try! a not shot photograph is 100% wrong • -be persistent but not stubborn, obstinacy blurs reason and creativity. Perseverance will let you find creative responses • -when the sky turns deep blue, try to use a 17-40 on full frame: P or a mobile phone with instagram (http://instagram.com/robERTOZAMPINO_PH) • -taste and photograph the local food and who cooks it • -Play with your subjects.
- 23. • -make your outfit look a bit shabby , mask your equipment using tape and cloths • -stay in touch with the people you took pictures of . ask them a emailin order to send them the shots • -build relationships, even for a few minutes, few words may lead to an unexpected and unique bond • -My best shots were taken thanks to local advices • -always respects your subjects if you want to be respected • -motivates your decisions, make your subjects understand why you are interested in a photo or their portrait • -Be honest, do not hide, do not look or act like a thief, you have nothing to be ashamed of. • -by showing that you are afraid is like admitting that you're doing something wrong. (Even if it is not true) • -use better your body language. be self confident but never provocative. • -do not look for excuses: the old camera, the lens are not professional, too many people, uninteresting light, .. these are all irrelevant in travel photography - creativity, decision-making, attention and alertness are worth much more than any professional camera. • - take another coffee
